Healing the Mother Wound

A Grieving Ritual for Mothers

Weekend Retreat in Northern California
Dec 6 – 8, 2019

We Grieve Because We Love

When we are grieving we can feel isolated and alone. We are expected to get on with life and get back to doing. This keeps us going for years without feeling seen or heard, burying emotions that need to be expressed.

Grieving rituals bring back practices of honoring our experience of loss in a sense of community. We hold space for each other, sharing stories of our loved ones and why their life was important and not forgotten.

Through shared experience we can again open our heart.

“As a mother, we are deeply connected to our wombs, where we’ve held and birthed our children. With the loss of a child we feel torn apart all the way to our core.” – Ixchel Tucker, Mother, Grandmother and Spiritual Guide

The Grieving Ritual …

  • Sacred Feminine meditations of Holding help us connect to our womb. They bring in the energy of the Divine Mother, ourselves as woman and mother, and also our child or children.
  • Create an altar to honor your child. Bring pictures, jewelry and special things to represent your child’s life.
  • Tell your Story. Storytelling is a time-honored tradition for sharing our truth. Yet, when we are grieving people don’t want to hear what’s going on for us. In our circle we will share the story of our child and what their life was about.
  • Water is a sacred element of the Mother. We will create a boat of twigs, leaves and moss and release them in the river.
  • In a circle of safe holding we will hold talking circle and share from our hearts. In talking circle there is no cross-talk. We mutually hold space for each other to open to their truth.
  • We will conclude with a give away ceremony. This is where we can let go of whatever we are ready to release.

“Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break.”
– William Shakespeare
